CP Canteen part 4

Another day, another instalment…

The artwork for this strip was produced, soup-to-nuts, on a Wacom Cintiq 24HD in Adobe Illustrator. For all you illustration geeks out there, here’s the rough sketch for the image above, an interim stage between the very rough storyboard I posted a couple of days ago and the finished, colour artwork. Until very recently this stage of the process would have been done in the traditional manner, pencil on paper with lots of rubbing out, tracing and muttered curses before being scanned in so that the digital phase could commence. These days, since the arrival of the mighty Wacom Cintiq 24HD, I work straight onto the screen and have found SketchBook Pro 6 to be a perfect app for producing pencil sketches that look and feel almost exactly like the real thing. The ability to layer up and gradually refine an image in the early stages is a joy as well as a real time-saver.
