My good friend and fellow illustrator Neil Gower, who I’ve known since we attended Brighton Art College together in the early 80s, celebrated his 50th birthday yesterday. Lynn and I, along with a few other fun-seekers, spent a couple of nights over New Year on the Gower peninsula (appropriately enough) where the birthday boy had rented a spacious cottage for a week of celebratory hedonism. I’ll draw a discreet veil over the drunken shenanigans that ensued but suffice to say, it was a lot of fun.
Anyone familiar with Neil’s work will know that he’s carved out quite a niche for himself producing splendid illustrated maps. He’s also the proud possessor of one of the illustration world’s most distinctive profiles. My half-century birthday present to him almost drew itself!
